July Meeting Notes :  Doug Robertson

There was no meeting in July.

Run Report: Tower Park. We had a pretty good turn out this year at Tower Park. There were about 15 families present with beautiful Delta weather to enjoy. Our group gatherings were a huge success with a feast  followed by ice cream for all. I think the little kids had the best time of all with Barbie jeep races while the grown-ups cheered them on. Some stayed on but most packed up and headed out on Sunday.

Concord 4th of July Parade. We had a pretty good turn out at the 4th of July Parade even with the close to 100* degree heat. There were about 12 buggys and our eldest member, Bill Salmon, rode his quad. The heat was brutal and anything that sprayed water was very popular. Roy’s passenger had a garden sprayer and the sparse crowd loved getting cooled down by the spray. A good time had by all.

Rubicon Run.  We had 4 families make the trek to the Sierra’s to enjoy some challenging off-roading adventures. Mike and Dawn Thurston arrived on Monday with myself and my wife Bobbie arriving on Tuesday evening. We were lucky enough to be right behind the rain when we arrived but Mike said it poured on Tuesday with lots of lightning and thunder. We did quite a bit of exploring on Wednesday and Thursday until Mick and Tamsie arrived Thursday. The Callanta family arrived on Friday and we all had a good time out on the trails, swimming in the creek and group meals. Mike’s clutch started to go away but still managed to get into some pretty hairy spots along with Anna while Mick and myself spectated. We had dropped in from the back side and were headed down into Wentworth Springs before Mick decided that he’d had enough and wanted to head back on the trails that he knew he could maneuver through. We were probably within ½ mile of making the complete loop before we turned back. We decided to call it a day and headed back for some grub. I don’t think anyone went away hungry from our group meals. We camped across the creek in the overflow area since the group sites were occupied all week. We were told that we could not have campfires in our area due to the high fire conditions and we were told by the Ranger that the Sheriffs were enforcing the no off road vehicles past the signs which makes it real hard to get anywhere other than Wentworth Springs Road legally. Great weather, great time by all (that showed up that is!!!).

NOTE: If you want to view pictures of Tower Park and 4th of July and did not receive an invitation to view my photo albums on Kodak let me know and I’ll send you the invite so you can view them.
