In remembrance of Jim "Pappy" Holm, one of our founding fathers of our "Escarabajo Dune Buggy Club". He was a good Friend, a Buddy, an Older Brother, and at times like a Father to me throughout our relationship of nearly 40 memorable years. I will miss him truly very much and glad he is in "DUNE BUGGY HEAVEN" watching over all of us.

Respectfully Submitted : Pat "SAND CRAB" Malato.

For those that have not heard, member Ralph Clark lost his house, motor home and buggy and his belongings to one of the wildfires in his area. He escaped with his car and not much else. If youÕd like to help in any way contact Anna Callanta for info 925-313-9163

Presidents Corner: Tod Smith, President.

Hello all,

Summer is here so go out and do it, just be careful. If I donÕt see you out on the trails then I hope to see you at the next meeting in September.

Until next time,
Tod

July Meeting Notes: Doug Robertson

Roll call.  Minutes were read and approved. Tyler Romero was in attendance with his parents for his first club meeting.

Bill Salmon opened with several articles from the CORVA Off-Roaders in Action July Issue. Ed WaldheimÕs last article as President of CORVA, a bittersweet look at his time at the helm, reflecting on the issues he has worked so hard on. EdÕs efforts are certainly appreciated and we support his future endeavors to keep the trails open for all off-roaders.

One thing of note is that Escarabajo was again named Northern Club Award winner at the CORVA convention.

The article ÒMake a DifferenceÓ is a very good example of off-roaders becoming politically active and making their collective voice heard resulting in the veto of some last minute legislation that would have shut down the opening of new trails in Washington state.

There are numerous articles of interest so read your copy to stay on top of whatÕs going on in the off-road community.

Harriet Robinson gave us an update on the Christmas Party. We will be having a main dish of Prime Rib or Tilapia fish. The club voted to hire a 3 piece band for the party.

Bill Salmon attended the Jim Holm Memorial and said it was a very nice gathering. Jim had many friends from different walks of life that came to pay tribute to the man.

I received the info from Carla on the CPR & First Aid Class. It all depends on how many sign up but cost should be around $60 per person resulting in certificate in adult, child & infant CPR and first aid . Contact Carla @ 925-671-0908 if you are interested.  Carla5124@comcast.net

It was reported that club members had a great time at the Danville Dinner Walk on the 3rd. Thanks to Pat Morgan for helping out the club treasury and providing a fun night out.

Pat turned in $587.50 proceeds from the Lions Club.

CORVA Report: Bill Salmon

See BillÕs report under meeting notes.

Rally Report: Mike Thurston

The Club Picnic at Tracy Wildlife was attended by 8 families. A very relaxing time was had by all. Everyone agreed that they would like to go back again.

The 4th of July Parade in Concord had a good turn out with several glass-bodies and rails representing the club. All though not as hot as last year it was plenty warm and the squirt guns again proved very popular (with most people). The Concord Moose Lodge hosted a nice lunch afterwards which was enjoyed by all. Thanks Jim Dunn for inviting us again to join your lodge in celebrating our nations birthday.

Gerle Creek (Rubicon Run) was a light turn out with myself and the RobertsonÕs attending. HOT weather for the first part of the week with temps cooling off later in the week. We spent a lot of time enjoying the swimming hole to stay cool. We spent one day out on the trails dropping in from the topside of Wentworth Springs and traveled the trail back to the dam across the granite face and back to the Gate keeper section where Doug encountered a stump with his right front wheel and bent his tie rod into a nice arch. After some beating to straighten it he hit it again and really bent the hell out of it. Again with the help of some 4 wheelers we got it straightened just like new and proceeded on finishing up at the dam. Taking the power line trail we encountered a large tree across the trail but not to be  denied Doug made the first attempt resulting in a teeter-totter high center. After much hassle using the winch we finally got him over and used the Bonzai method with tow straps assisting to get my car over but made it first try.

Raffle and Treasurers report closed out the meeting along with
