Presidents Corner: Tod Smith President
Hello everyone,
As you well know by now, we held our Off Road Rally at Frank Raines Park over Memorial Weekend. Despite the skeptics, I feel that it was a successful event for our first time at Frank Raines. Club members came up with some very creative activities for the entrants and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. There was a letter search which spelled out “Don’t cut the fence” , Poker hands with 100% return on the money, a 50/50
Raffle by long time CORVA supporter Bill Salmon that made 100% return to CORVA thanks to the generosity of Tim Warbington who donated his winnings back to CORVA.
There are many people to say THANK YOU !!! To who made this event a success, Tim Warbington, Roy Haley, Bill Salmon, Ralph Robinson who made the trip just to run the hot dog stand, Diana Mead for taking on the dinner preparation, Bev Haley for her potato salad, the Gnutzmans for supplying the event t-shirts and awards, Anna Callanta for making the word puzzles, Erin Smith for registration duties and everyone else that chipped in and helped make this event a success. THANK YOU !! To all.
June Meeting Notes : Doug Robertson
The June meeting was attended by about 2 dozen members. Roll call was taken and the minutes were read and approved. Lots of discussion on the Rally at Frank Raines (see Presidents Corner). Ken Swenson reported that he has the Forum up and running which can be found on the club web site at the bottom of the main page. For those that have not visited it yet you have to apply to the group before you can post to the subjects listed. Give it a shot, the more members that use it , the better it will become. Bill Salmon asked if there was any more on the sale of a parcel that is part of Pismo dunes area. I’ll dig around to see if the Times has anything else on this and report back.
Diana Mead is writing an article to submit to the CORVA magazine “Off-Roaders in Action”. She will also write a Thank you to the staff at Frank Raines for their help.
Jim Dunn came by to extend an invite to the Moose Lodge for their Annual 4th of July after parade open house. For those that haven’t been there it is behind Park & Shop next to the Petco food store. Parking is available in the Petco parking lot or the Park & Shop lot. Since it is also club meeting day we will hold the club meeting at the parade at 10:00am. There will be no regular
meeting that night so go enjoy the fireworks, barbeques, friends and families.
Bill Salmon gave a CORVA report touching on several articles in the June issue of Off-Roaders in Action.
There was a presentation of the Skunk Trophy to Roy Haley for neglecting to install his skid plate resulting in a broken oil pan which put his buggy on the trailer for most of the weekend. Lee Sawin was also discussed for one of his driving adventures that resulted in a rather lengthy winch pull to extract his buggy from way down one of the ravines. The board will try to come up with an appropriate award befitting his heroics.
If you would like Debi Cambell from CORVA to have your e-mail and mailing info let me know and I will forward it along. It was felt that some people may not want to make this info public outside of the club so if you’re interested let me know. D1982Coe@aol.com
Raffle and refreshments topped off the evening. Meeting adjourned.
