Presidents Corner:    Tod Smith President
Hello all,

It's been a quick, but relaxing time away from my presidential duties this summer, but I'm glad to be back.
We had a lot of good times with some of you and look forward to the next outing.

Sometimes it seems like we are always trying to keep our public lands, just that!
Sometimes our efforts pay off. This time we won!
About two years ago, myself and some other club members started attending meetings about Frank Raines OHV that seemed like a waste of time.
Now, we can applaud ourselves for getting active and making a difference. The work we put into the park has come full circle.
The county has more than matched our efforts and Frank Raines looks to be safe from closure for quite some time to come.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the Northern CORVA Jamboree this year.

Until next time,
Tod

Sept Meeting Notes :  Doug Robertson

We had about 25 in attendance at the club meeting. Minutes were read and approved. Tod reported that Wayne Buckner had been doing volunteer work at Frank Raines by painting arrows and such on the pavement so that kids could ride in the campground on motorized vehicles. The county has done many repairs on the facility to improve park conditions. There will be more enforcement by the Sheriffs Dept. when the park opens. If conditions permit it may open early but too soon to tell now. Anyone who does volunteer work there is urged to fill out Volunteer forms showing how much time was spent as this helps the county ask for more money for the budget. Diana Mead sent a very nice letter to the county thanking them for their efforts.

At the Board meeting it was decided to help with the events at the upcoming CORVA Northern Jamboree.

Run Report: We recapped the 4th of July Parade (VERY HOT), and the Rubicon run for those that were not there. See the mid summer Bull Sheet for details.

Several members reported on the trip to St. Anthony dunes in Idaho. Several members experienced equipment failures getting there and back with blown tires heading up the list, loose lug nuts, and a blown RV engine by one of the Myers group. The message here is to check you rigs before, during and after these long trips.

Day at the Beach: We had 7 families at this years outing. Gary Dow made the trip and roped off our usual area for us. The weather was overcast with morning fog and if you stayed around till late Sunday you even got to see some sunshine. Dawn did a great job on cooking the tri-tips again, Tim cooked up some fabulous potatoes in his dutch oven. Everyone shared in the pot luck feast and settled in around multiple fire pits to share in an evening of conversation.

NOTE: If you want to view pictures of Tower Park and 4th of July and did not receive an invitation to view my photo albums on Kodak let me know and I’ll send you the invite so you can view them. I’ll have the pictures from the beach trip up soon.

CORVA Report  The upcoming Southern and Northern Jamborees were discussed.

Up Coming Events:

Walnut Festival Parade 9/15 meet at DMV on Broadway in Walnut Creek around 4pm

We must be in place by 5pm so try to be prompt to travel with the group to the staging area. This year we are entry #62. Below is the information for our group. It sounds like cell phones will be the best way to keep in contact so please make note of the numbers below and hopefully we’ll have the answers to your questions.

We will be staging your group first in the closed area of Mt Diablo between Main and Locust. Then once we clear out Olympic with the numbers 10-18 we will have your group brought around and let onto Olympic Street to stage and wait for your turn. We will assign a volunteer to make sure this goes smooth for you.

If you have any questions or can't find us at the parade please call either Tod @ 925-766-0876

or Erin @ 925-525-6754 or Doug @ 925-759-5729.
